Unbinding rituals are powerful practices used to release yourself from unhealthy attachments, toxic relationships, past traumas, or any energetic cords that no longer serve you. Whether you are breaking ties with a person, situation, habit, or even ancestral patterns, these rituals provide a sacred way to reclaim your energy and move forward freely.

Below, I’ll outline several unbinding rituals, each with detailed step-by-step instructions, including how to properly dispose of materials used in the rituals once they are completed.

1. Cord-Cutting Ritual with Candle and Thread

Best for: Releasing emotional or energetic ties with a person, past event, or limiting belief.

Materials:

Two candles (one representing you, one representing the situation/person)

• A piece of thread, string, or black cord

• A fire-safe bowl or dish

• A lighter or matches

• Cleansing herbs (sage, rosemary, or palo santo)

• A piece of paper and a pen

Instructions:

1. Set Your Intention:

• Sit quietly and reflect on the energetic ties you are releasing.

• Write on the piece of paper what you are unbinding from. Be specific.

2. Prepare Your Space:

• Cleanse the space with sage, rosemary, or palo santo.

• Place the two candles a few inches apart and tie them together with the string.

3. Light the Candles:

• Say a prayer, affirmation, or intention such as:

“I release all energetic ties that bind me to (person/situation). I am free, and so it is.”

4. Burn the Thread:

• Hold the middle of the thread over a flame until it catches fire and burns away, breaking the connection.

• Let the candles burn for a while or until they naturally extinguish.

5. Disposal:

• Burn the piece of paper you wrote on, and scatter the ashes in running water (a river, ocean, or sink).

• Bury the candle wax remnants at a crossroads or in a natural place where the energy can dissipate.

2. Salt and Water Unbinding Ritual

Best for: Breaking free from past emotional wounds, toxic energies, or self-limiting beliefs.

Materials:

A bowl of water (preferably from a natural source or moon-charged water)

• A handful of salt (sea salt or black salt)

• A white or black candle

• A mirror

• A piece of paper and pen

Instructions:

1. Prepare Your Space:

• Light the candle and place it next to the bowl of water.

• Take a moment to reflect on what you need to release.

2. Write Down What You’re Unbinding From:

• On the piece of paper, write down what you are ready to let go of.

• Read it aloud while looking at yourself in the mirror.

3. Dissolve the Energy in Water:

• Tear up the paper into small pieces and place them in the bowl of water.

• Add a handful of salt and stir counterclockwise, visualizing the energy dissolving.

4. Affirmation and Completion:

• Say aloud: “By water and salt, I cleanse and free myself. I am no longer bound. I am whole.”

• Let the candle burn out naturally.

5. Disposal:

• Pour the water into the earth or down a running stream.

• The torn-up paper can be buried or burned, and ashes scattered in the wind.

3. Egg Cleansing & Breaking Ritual

Best for: Removing spiritual ties, generational curses, and heavy attachments.

Materials:

A fresh egg (room temperature)

A glass of water

• A pinch of salt

• A small dish of vinegar

• A candle

Instructions:

1. Cleanse the Egg:

• Pass the egg through incense smoke or rub it with vinegar to remove any residual energy.

2. Roll the Egg Over Your Body:

• Hold the egg and roll it over your body, focusing on areas where you feel tension or heaviness.

• Move from your head to your feet, saying:

“I release all attachments, seen and unseen. I break free from all that holds me back.”

3. Crack the Egg Into Water:

• Crack the egg into a glass of water and observe its form.

• If you see bubbles, dark strands, or cloudy formations, it indicates trapped energy leaving your system.

4. Dispose of the Egg Properly:

• Flush the egg and water down the toilet, saying: “As this water flows away, so does what no longer serves me.”

• Rinse the glass with salt water.

4. Paper and Fire Release Ritual

Best for: Letting go of toxic relationships, bad habits, or harmful patterns.

Materials:

• A piece of paper and pen

• A fireproof bowl or cauldron

• Matches or a lighter

• A small amount of salt

Instructions:

1. Write a Letter to What You’re Releasing:

• Address it directly (e.g., “Dear Fear,” “Dear Old Self,” “Dear Past Love”).

• Express everything you need to say, then close with: “I now set you free. I now set myself free.”

2. Burn the Paper:

• Light the paper and let it burn in the fireproof bowl.

• Watch the smoke rise, imagining your burdens dissolving.

3. Final Words & Affirmation:

• As the fire burns, say:

“I am unbound. I reclaim my energy. I step forward free and whole.”

4. Disposal:

• Mix the ashes with salt and scatter them in the wind or bury them in the earth.

5. Bath Cleansing and Unbinding Ritual

Best for: A full-body unbinding to release emotional baggage and stagnant energy.

Materials:

A bathtub or large basin

• Epsom salt or black salt

• Herbs (rosemary, lavender, rue, or basil)

• A white or black candle

• Essential oils (optional: lavender, eucalyptus)

Instructions:

1. Prepare Your Bath:

• Fill the tub with warm water.

• Add salt and herbs, stirring counterclockwise to break energetic bonds.

2. Light the Candle & Set Your Intention:

• Sit in the water, close your eyes, and breathe deeply.

• Say: “With this water, I wash away all attachments that do not serve me.”

3. Immerse Yourself Fully:

• Submerge yourself completely at least three times, symbolizing rebirth.

• Visualize all negative energy dissolving into the water.

4. End the Ritual:

• Unplug the drain and watch the water disappear, imagining the past leaving with it.

5. Disposal:

• Collect any solid herbs and bury them in the earth.

• Rinse the tub with saltwater to cleanse residual energy.

Final Thoughts

Unbinding rituals are deeply personal and should be performed with intention, focus, and respect. After each ritual, ground yourself with food, drink water, or spend time in nature to realign your energy.
